Florida Family Fun

This weekend my cousins from Miami, Fl flew in to visit us here Virginia folk. We greeted them with music blasting, a birthday cake for Tristan, and lots of food. Courtesy of my cousin, Colette, I made a tangy and delicious frozen drink. It was gone in seconds! It consisted of 8 lemons, 5 oranges, and four limes which were juiced into a pitcher. Then I added the juice into a blender with ice, water, sugar, and a few mint leaves. It was a perfect drink for the record high temperatures the D.C. area has been experiencing.

That evening, we all went into Reston to eat an Italian dinner at Vapiano’s. After a delicious dinner we walked in and out of a few stores and got some frozen yogurt. We were just trying to stay cool because the temperature was still around 100–even at 8 PM!

We went home and watched some crazy horror films at night (our usual tradition) and headed to bed. The next morning, we woke up and made a huge breakfast for the family–consisting of bagels, donuts, eggs, bacon, coffee, juice, and a delicious fruit salad my cousin Diana made with fresh mango flown up with them from Miami! After breakfast my mom, Sara, Diana, and I headed to one of my favorite little places, The British Pantry. Diana loves all things British so I thought it would be a fun place to visit.

Seeing all the things I saw in stores while living in London brought on a slew of memories. We picked up a few things from the store (including my favorite cookies!)

In the afternoon, we had a big barbeque (we did a lot of eating this weekend) as a thunderstorm rolled through cooling things down. After the barbeque, we set up a slip ‘n” slide which Sara and Dylan bought. A few of us had a pretty intense water gun fight and then proceeded to slip and slide (and bleed) a few times. It was fun but painful. I realized I am not as young as I used to be. Bailey enjoyed himself the most I think.

After dark, my Dad went out and set up a bunch of fireworks in the middle of our neighborhood. It was a pretty little show and we all enjoyed the sparklers and beautiful colors. It was a wonderful end to the weekend! Tomorrow my cousins (and Sara) head off to Williamsburg, so I won’t see them again until Tuesday night. But I am looking forward to another week of work. I really love my job so far and am excited to continue progressing there.
