London is definitely a must-see when traveling to England. But there are so many small towns across the beautiful country of England that are each unique and filled with charm, untouched by corporations and urbanization. I want to share with you a few of the towns I had the chance to visit. First up: Stratford-upon-Avon.

Stratford is best known as the birthplace of our friend, Shakespeare. The town appears to have kept its old charm and looks, every street your walk down brings you back in time. Stratford is nestled right up next to the River Avon, which gives the town its fun name.  When in Shakespeare’s hometown, you can’t pass up the chance to see one of his plays at the Royal Shakespeare Company.

IMG_0496I had the opportunity to catch a modern rendition of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” There I am below, completely entranced by the beauty of the theatre around me. (Just kidding I was texting, but I promise I did pay attention and the play was great!) I recommend checking this theatre out, it is well worth going to see.  Tickets vary in price anywhere from £2 to much more than that depending on the show and time you are going. 417359_10150975126092414_2025375144_nAnother popular spot to visit is Anne Hathaway’s cottage (Shakespeare’s wife, not the actress). It is a romantic and old cottage owned by Anne’s family. They have expansive gardens and a cat that roams the property, which was one of my favorite parts of this stop. Just two minutes from the center of town, Anne’s cottage is nestled out in quiet nature. Apparently it is also a popular spot in the area for weddings and fancy teatimes.IMG_0510The doorways and rooms were small, they had little fireplaces in almost every room in the house. Very cute! 305488_2201398594716_2125916884_nShakespeare wasn’t only born in this town, he is also buried here. Another stop on our trip was visiting his burial spot inside the Church of the Holy Trinity.IMG_0534Stratford is a picturesque town situated on a river (with swans!) that is a blend of old and new. I was here for two days and had the chance to see most of the town. At night, my friends went out for live music at a bar close to where we were staying and could see the river and swans floating down from where we sat. We even ended up following a cow named Daisy to a nightclub. As you can see, there is a lot of fun to be had in this little town, Stratford-upon-Avon!IMG_0551
