Eva’s Lens: Looking Up

More and more recently I find myself literally looking up toward the sky. Strange? Maybe. Eye-opening? Definitely.

In the past five years or so, I have discovered a new love and appreciation for photography. The term comes from Greek roots meaning ‘photo’ (or light) and ‘graphe’, representing ‘lines’ or ‘drawing’; interpreted as ‘drawing with light’. I started with different digital cameras but wanted more creative control of the pictures I was taking. I then bought a Digital SLR camera, a Canon EOS Rebel T3i, and am very happy with it, as I can play around with interchangeable lenses.

Living in a city and visiting other cities groomed me to want to pay attention to the smallest detail. I find myself looking for tiny treasures in, around and above my peripheral vision. Once I snap the picture, I can save it, look back on it, and remember the moment in time when I discovered it. Alleyways, architecture, street art, the effects of weather, landscapes, floor patterns, the juxtaposition of old and new, you name it, I like taking photos of it.

Going outside of your photography box will give you a new and beautiful perspective; angle your camera lens, zoom out, do things a bit beyond your means. You may just find a new appreciation of beauty in the every day, I know I do.
