Eye on London: The Magic of Harrods

My first (and only) trip to Harrods was magical. It was a beautiful afternoon in London and my friends and I got dressed up to go explore the 5 acre famous department store in Kensington. Yes, that’s right. Harrods takes up a whopping 5 acres equaling up to a million square feet of space with its expansive 330 departments.

Walking in, the windows and display cases were perfected with designers’ latest trends and enchanted scenery of Chanel, Burberry, Mulberry and more. The crowd was buzzing and the feeling was electric! We all got maps and decided what our plan would be.

The map showed everything from luggage departments to a toy kingdom to home decorating and a beauty section. Harrods also has loads of dining options including ice cream parlors, tea rooms, champagne bars, tapas restaurants – you name it.

The sections that excited me the most were the Christmas department and the pet department. There was every type of holiday ornament and decoration you can imagine, and right next door were 20 different bedding options for your beloved pup.

We decided to get lunch and tea in a children’s room (to save some pounds) and walked around many departments before heading to the gift shop on our way out. It really is like a maze in there, one that never seemed to end.

I definitely recommend going to Harrods, if not to buy anything, just for the experience itself. Of course there are other great areas of London to explore: Notting Hill, Covent Garden, Oxford Street and Regent Street are trendy shopping options that will be sure to satisfy your British shopping experience.

Have you been to Harrods? What was your first impression?
