Czech out Prague: Part Two

Hi everyone, I will be picking up where Eva left off on our trip to Prague. Our second day started off on an easier foot than day one. We were better accustomed to the city after our long walks the first day. Although we still didn’t know a single Czech word – oops – we felt more comfortable talking with the locals. We met up with one of the women who worked for the Airbnb property we rented that morning, Dewi, so she could show us where to drop off our luggage for the day (we checked out that morning). I have nothing but wonderful things to say about all the Airbnbs I stayed at while in Europe. She gave us tips on where to eat and things to do. It was really fun talking with a local and made us feel relaxed as our day kicked off.

We were all in the mood for warm pastries and coffee; it was a cool and drizzly morning. We were directed to a quaint bakery on a cobblestone side street called Krusta. We were a little confused about which street to turn down initially, but a quick whiff with our noses guided us to the right place. I’m not kidding, I felt like a dog smelling the air. The scent traveled so strongly from that bakery. We sat on a stoop huddled together to block the rain and enjoyed our delectable pastries and lattes.

From there we went on a tour via a hop-on hop-off bus. The first part of the tour was actually a walking tour which was nice. Our guide was very funny and informative too. Prague is split into Old Town and New Town and there are stark contrasts to the architecture and feel of the two sides. We learned a lot of interesting facts on the bus tour including learning Prague Castle is the largest castle in the world. We were offered fantastic views on the hilly roads throughout Prague. It has a very unique feel compared to other cities I have visited in Europe because of how green the city is. There are a lot of parks and green areas surrounding and throughout the city.  We also saw why the city is know as the “city of 1,000 spires.” Almost every building has one.

The first place we hopped off was the Lennon Wall. It was so colorful and filled with inspiring quotes. A man was playing music at the wall and we took our time appreciating the artwork and taking photos.

After visiting the wall, we walked along the river and down to Old Town. We found an adorable place to eat a late lunch. Our first order of business was to try the beef goulash. We each ordered a dish and the waitress was very helpful in guiding us what to order. It was really tasty and I highly recommend trying some if you ever visit Prague. We had a wonderful time relaxing under the cozy blankets and people-watching as we ate our meals. The air was chilly and it felt like fall. Right down the alley were a few vendors selling fall-inspired decorations and goodies. We felt so content with our afternoon.

After our late lunch, we felt the need to walk off the heavy food we had devoured. We went for a long walk to where the Dancing House was. It felt surreal to be in Prague. The first day there was a bit overwhelming, as Eva mentioned in her recap, because we felt really far from home. But in the second day, Prague revealed its charm to us. It is a magical city filled with polite (and relatively quiet) people, and a sense that not much has changed since the early times when Prague was established.

We ended our day enjoying cappuccinos at a cafe in the main square in Old Town, awaiting our ride to the airport. We reminisced about our travels and even closed our eyes for a few moments in the comfortable chairs under blankets.

I am so glad I had the chance to see the Czech Republic with two of my best friends. It was a fascinating cultural experience that will never be forgotten.
