But first… Chocolate: Brussels Recap

A few of my favorite things: exploring, chocolate, photography, good friends, and trying new beer! And I did ALL of these things while in Brussels.

My friends and I caught an early train to Brussels, Belgium for a delicious day trip. After our two hour train ride through the English Channel was over, we hopped in a cab that took us to Grand Place, Brussels’ main square. Right away I was overwhelmed by the scents and the beautiful architecture.

My friends and I spent the morning hopping and in out of different chocolate shops, buying and tasting chocolate on the spot (a highlight of mine for sure) and walking around Grand Place.

My friends stopped in a macaroon store and since I don’t usually love macaroons, I waited outside. After a little bit of time I walked inside to find about 20+ flavor combinations. Once I laid my eyes on a chocolate and raspberry macaron it was game over. I was sold. It was so delicious I decided to buy more to take home with me.

We got a recommendation from our cab driver to go to a place called the Waffle Factory to try waffles, a ‘when in Brussels’ must. The Waffle Factory did not disappoint. There were three different types of waffles you could order with many options of toppings… nutella, dark chocolate, peanut butter, banana, strawberry. I got a combination of dark chocolate and strawberry. It was melt-in-your-mouth good. The waffle was light and delicate and not too doughy.

After our decadent waffle and a bit more exploring, our next stop was beer tasting! We found a pub and took a seat outside. We got a few flights of beer and all shared them. It was fun to sit on the street and people watch while enjoying the aura of the city. My favorite beer was one called Delirium, a beer known to Belgium. I’ve had it once in the states and I have to say, I think it was better in Belgium.

After our beer tasting we decided to grab a bite to eat. We all wanted burgers so we stopped at the Hard Rock Cafe (I know, I know… not authentic) but it was nearby our beer tasting and the menu looked delish. After our dinner and a bit more walking around, it was time to catch our train back to London.

Our day in Brussels was definitely filled with lots of eating and drinking and I wouldn’t have had it any other way! It was a beautiful day to explore Grand Place and be with good company. I’m still dreaming of those chocolate and raspberry macaroons…
