The Liebster Award: Erin

I am very lucky to announce that the lovely Arzo from Arzo Travels and Svenja from Travel. Blog. Repeat. have both nominated Wonderlost for the Liebster Award, which is given to up and coming bloggers by bloggers. Thank you Arzo and Svenja for nominating Wonderlost and asking 11 questions so that my readers can learn more about us.

Now that we have been awarded the Liebster Award, I have the honor to nominate some of my favorite bloggers as well!  You can find the nominees and the questions at the bottom.

Here Are My Answers:

What makes you happy?

There are so many things that make me happy! Traveling to see new places, of course, makes me very happy. But my family, my friends, and my dog top the list.

Do you have any role models?

I have several role models, but my mom is an important role model for me. She is the strongest, most independent woman I know. She was the first in her family to get a college degree, she is successful in everything she does, and she loves deeply. She ignited a fire in me as she raised me with her adventurous and curious soul. She is a major reason I have so much wonder and love for this world.

What do you love most about blogging?

I love working with my blogging partner, Eva! I started this blog back in February of 2015, but things really started to get exciting when I asked my friend Eva if she would be interested in contributing to Wonderlost. We formed an excellent team to constantly improve and expand Wonderlost. Blogging is even better with a friend!

I also love the community that is formed when you really submerse yourself in the blogging world. I have seen and followed so many inspiring and adventurous people and it just encourages me to continue with Wonderlost.

How much does your blog benefit from social media?

Wonderlost exists because of social media. Ever since we started getting more active on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and following similar bloggers on WordPress, our stats have grown tremendously. Blogging is about forming a community and not just promoting your own content, but interacting and engaging with others. Social media is the reason Wonderlost was nominated for this award! So I’d say it’s a pretty important part of blogging.

What is the most important piece of advice you think we should do as bloggers to keep our followers happy or to gain more followers?

My most important piece of advice for bloggers looking to gain more followers or keep followers happy is to engage. You can’t write and expect that people are going to take an interest in you if you don’t write back, follow their blog, and seek new channels to communicate with your following. Something we are working on this year is to focus on writing articles that matter to our followers.

What is on the top of your bucket list?

It depends on the day you ask me. Right now I am really interested in planning a trip to Yellowstone National Park. I would say after that I would love to stay in a cabin in the Swiss Alps and travel to South Africa to go on a safari and see some wildlife. You have to dream big!

Where do you see yourself in 10 years from now?

Ten years from now I hope to have traveled to a ton of new places and countries. I hope to be loving my career as an Earth Science teacher and would love to have a family of my own. I also plan on still writing!

What is your favorite quote and why?

I have lots of favorite quotes, but my favorite quote at the moment is: “She turned her cant’s into can’s and her dreams into plans.”

Do you have any favorite places you keep returning to?

London. I studied abroad in London and just had a reunion there with four of my best friends. Although there are lots more places I want to see, I know someday I will return again. It will always hold a special place in my heart. ❤

What is your favorite kind of accommodation – hotel, hostel, bed & breakfast, …?

I actually just wrote an article about this. Depending on where I am traveling, I think AirBnB is a new favorite. Aside from that, nothing beats staying in a nice hotel room.

What is your favorite book and why?

The Opposite of Loneliness written by Marina Keegan. This book is a compilation of short stories and journal entries by Marina who was sadly killed in a car accident just after graduating college. She was an aspiring author so some of her teachers and family compiled her work and published the book for her. I can’t recommend it highly enough–the stories are inspiring, sad, funny, angry. She has such a way with words and I encourage you to pick up a copy!

My Questions:

  1. How long have you been blogging?
  2. What inspired you to start your blog?
  3. What is your favorite travel experience to date?
  4. What is your most embarrassing travel story?
  5. Why do you think it is important to travel?
  6. Who do you enjoy traveling with?
  7. What is your favorite or most exotic food that you’ve tried?
  8. What do you enjoy doing besides traveling?
  9. What is your preferred method of transportation? (Train, bus, plane, bike, etc)
  10. What is your favorite song?
  11. Do you wish you could (or do you already) travel full time?

Some General Rules to Follow:

  1. Accept the nomination and answer the questions of the blogger who nominated you.
  2. Think of 11 new questions yourself.
  3. Nominate bloggers you would like to answer your questions.
  4. They write an article about this nomination on their blog and link back to the website of their nominator.
