Ski Trip to Blue Knob All Seasons Resort

Blue Knob

Two weekends ago my dad and I decided to take a day trip to a ski resort in Bedford, Pennsylvania we had never been to before called Blue Knob. Blue Knob is located in the southwestern part of PA about an hour from Pittsburgh. The northeast had just experienced a huge snowstorm, Jonas, and we were itching to get out of the house. We knew the skiing would be fantastic since there was freshly fallen snow on the mountains. We woke up early to a cotton candy sunrise and headed north. About three hours later, we arrived at Blue Knob!

Sunrise

Blue Knob is one of only a handful of “inverted mountains” in the United States. This was my first time visiting a ski mountain where the skiing starts at the top, not the bottom, of the mountain. There was a steep winding road leading to the summit of Blue Knob which is where you park your car, enjoy the lodge, and begin skiing! It was so unique to start at the summit of a mountain, ski down, and chairlift back up. I thought it was pretty neat since you get to spend a lot of time at the top, admiring the views of the mountains surrounding you.

I’m not a great skier, but I have gone a few times in my life. Luckily for us, my dad’s friend, Dick Bryan and his son Rich, are ski instructors at this resort. We met up with Dick and within minutes he was guiding us down our first trail. Blue Knob is home to an incredibly long and fun two mile green trail called Mambo Alley. Parts of it were a little nerve racking since it merged with blue trails, but Dick walked me through every turn and I am proud to say I skied down the entire mountain without taking a spill!

Chairlift

After a few more runs, we took a nice long chairlift ride back to the summit of the mountain. My dad and Rich Bryan skied down a few blues before meeting me back in the lodge to warm up. The lodge is unique, like I mentioned earlier, since it is situated at the top of the mountain. It wasn’t the best lodge I’ve been to, but it still had everything you could ask for–live music, food, drinks, and a fireplace.

Blue Knob

Visiting Blue Knob was a fantastic time. The skiing was excellent and I could tell there was such a community of skiers and snowboarders there. Unlike other northeastern resorts, Blue Knob didn’t have many tourists or crowds which I loved. Just people who love winter sports and care about helping those who need guidance.

Blue Knob

I recommend taking a trip to Blue Knob for yourself if you are looking to ski/snowboard in the northeast. And when you visit, ask for Dick and Rich Bryan!

I miss skiing. Last time I went I fell and hurt myself pretty badly, so next time, I will definitely take a class. Looking forward to some fun in the snow next year 🙂ReplyCancel

This looks incredible. I don’t get access to much snow where I live so I always love to read about new places overseas. Have never heard of Blue Knob. Now I know all about it.ReplyCancel
