Walking around the Temple of Heaven in Beijing brought me to the Seventy-Year-Old Door.
After a little research, I learned that this entryway was used by Emperor Qianlong in 1779; his health was failing and he wanted to be able to get to the temple as quick possible. His newer and faster route lead him to go through this door.
He issued an order stating that no one in his family could enter and exit the door unless they are 70 years of age, he was afraid his younger family members would abuse the offer. None of the later emperors reached 70, so Qianlong was the only person who had used this door.
Interesting tidbit for this Monday morning! Plus, I love the red coloring (of course).
