The Tracy Arm Fjord is a fjord in Alaska located about 45 miles south of Juneau and is about 30 miles long, leading up to the Twin Sawyers Glacier. It is a beautiful fjord with deep, calm water and plenty of wildlife including harbor seals, bears, deer, wolves and mountain goats.
For those who may not know, a fjord is a long, narrow inlet left by a retreating glacier. It is typically found between steep cliffs where the land has been carved out by a glacier. It was fascinating to learn that our cruise ship could “parallel park” next to the cliffs if the captain wanted to–the water is so deep all the way to the base of the cliff–which is typical of fjords.
Traveling through Alaska on a cruise this past summer was incredibly memorable, but sailing through the Tracy Arm Fjord is one of the most memorable things I’ve ever experienced. The pristine beauty that surrounded our ship was breathtaking and looked like something out of a magazine. Below are some of my favorite pictures from sailing through Tracy Arm.
Enjoy!
Wow, I absolutely love your photos! I’ve always had Alaska in the back of my mind and when I think of it, it looks exactly like these photos do! Sounds like a wonderful trip! Thanks for sharing, xx
Thanks so much Jaimee! I highly recommend visiting if you ever decide to. There are lots of fun options for how to see Alaska, I chose a cruise but next time I’d love to do a land tour 🙂
I think I would also do a cruise, and then a land tour the second time (if I was lucky enough to go twice!) 😉
Great photos! Sailing Tracy Arm Fjord was a very memorable experience for us as well when we visited Alaska.
So great that you went too! Thanks so much for commenting! 🙂
Wow, the scenery here is absolutely stunning. I’ve heard that Alaska is a beautiful place, but now I’ve seen the photos I want to go see it with my own eyes. Thanks for sharing 🙂
Glad to share with you Joe! I recommend everyone go to Alaska at least once. It truly is an untouched work of nature. The last frontier! Thanks for the comment.
Have always wanted to go to Alaska. Now your pictures make me to wish I could go now. Great photos.
Thank you so much, Vjay! If you ever have the opportunity, I highly recommend it.
I worked in Alaska for three summers onboard a tiny cruise ship. Tracy Arm has always been a favourite of mine. Who did you travel with? Uncruise?
That must have been so fun! What a great summer job. I traveled with Celebrity Cruise. We had a great experience!
It was a year round job, actually, just not in AK all year! Definitely fun but had its downsides like every job :/
Oh I’m sure. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog! 🙂
Found your blog in the Girls vs Globe Facebook group and omg, I love it! I’d love to visit Alaska one day and your pictures are absolutely gorgeous!
Awww thank you so much! I hope you get the opportunity to visit there, it’s truly magnificent!
Just checked out your blog as well. I love it! Definitely going to be following along 🙂
