A Charming Evening in Victoria, B.C.

On the last night of my cruise through Alaska we stopped in the charming city of Victoria, British Columbia. This was only my second time visiting Canada; a few summers ago I went to Niagra Falls and Toronto. I have always wanted to see the western side of Canada, so I was excited to visit even if just for a few hours.

Victoria is the capital city of British Columbia, the westernmost province in Canada. The city had a British feel to it which makes sense since Victoria was colonized by the British in 1843, making it one of the oldest cities in the Pacific northwest. The city was very clean and well cared for, and the streets were all lined with beautiful flowers. It was so colorful everywhere! We spent the evening admiring the architecture, eating dinner in a Thai restaurant, listening to live music played by local musicians, and popping in and out of some quaint shops.

The sky turned a vibrant shade of pink, purple, and orange as we strolled the streets of Victoria. The harbor was beautiful with its ships lined up in a row, and as evening set we saw the Parliament building light up.

I would love to return to Victoria one day to further explore the city and surrounding areas. Victoria is well known for its whale watching (specifically killer whales), gardens, parks, nature trails, and various festivals that occur throughout the year. You can check out their tourism website for more advice on things to do!

We lived on Vancouver Island for many many years and certainly the waterfront in Victoria is easy on the eyes with all its buskers and entertainers and food trucks and yachts. But if you return, make sure you take the time to go “up-island” where the true beauty of the area is found!ReplyCancel

Oh how wonderful that you lived in such a beautiful place! I would absolutely love to go back and explore the area more. It’s a shame we only had about 6 hours there before our ship departed. I look forward to exploring that region of Canada in the future. Thanks so much for reading! <3ReplyCancel
