Paris has so many different cute and quaint neighborhoods to explore. In this post you will learn about some of my favorites!
Montmartre
This adorable town is a short train ride (or long walk) north of the heart of the city and is filled with local artists and tiny cobblestone streets.
Montmartre is also home to the beautiful Sacre Coeur church. Sacre Coeur sits high on top of the hill of Montmartre and is visible from other tall landmarks (Musee d’Orsay & the Eiffel Tower — and actually on the train to the Charles de Gaulle airport as I found out on my last day in Paris).
I have always loved the small town vibe I get while walking around Montmartre, even if it is a little touristy at some parts. Don’t forget to stop and see the Moulin Rouge, the famous French cabaret, which is a short walk away from the hill of Sacre Coeur.
Le Marais
The neighborhood of Le Marais was bustling when I visited! Le Marais is known as the Jewish quarter, and there are many Jewish shops and bakeries here as well as other cute boutique shops. Don’t forget to stop at Le Vosges to visit the park and see the beautiful buildings surrounding it. I love the lively energy of Le Marais!
Saint Germain des Prés
This is my favorite area of Paris! These iconic streets scream “this is Paris!” with quaint cafes at every corner, lots of shopping, and galleries filled with artwork. Saint Germain is accessible to many of the popular tourist spots including: the Louvre, Notre Dame, il de la Cite, delicious restaurants, and beautiful shops. I stayed in Saint Germain on my most recent trip to Paris and I would definitely stay here again.
Latin Quarter
Located right next to Saint Germain, the Latin Quarter is known for its lively atmosphere. Although crowded, there is always a lot of energy when the small cobblestone streets are bustling. There are dive bars, cool nightlife, many food options, and cozy old bookshops, including a favorite of mine called Shakespeare and Company which is a must visit! Walk down Rue de la Huchette late at night or very early in the morning (but don’t eat there as it is touristy) to get a good feeling of this area and to avoid the crowds. The Notre Dame and many other must-see’s are a short walk away from this eccentric neighborhood.
Each area of Paris is so unique and together they make up the iconic beauty that is Paris. I hope during your next trip you get to visit all of them!
That’s so cool, that even at the latin quarter where it’s busy that there’s still a chance for someone to do a little bit of painting, I definitely love that there’s a cafe in every corner with tables outside, beautiful 🙂
Me too! So Parisian! Thanks for stopping by, Andy 🙂
Always a pleasure Eva ^.^
