What to See (and Eat) in Jackson, Wyoming

Jackson, Wyoming is a quintessentially western town located just outside the border of Grand Teton National Park. The quaint streets, mountain views, and friendly locals make this a wonderful city worth visiting. My family and I stayed in Jackson for three nights and felt we saw a lot of what this town had to offer.

Where to Eat in Jackson

Eating is one of the most important aspects of traveling! Getting a taste for local cuisine is important and fun on every trip. We tried a wide variety of food in Jackson, and every meal surpassed expectations in its own unique way.

Breakfast

Persephone – This is the hottest spot for breakfast in Jackson. Get there early to avoid a long line, though the line does move fast. Breakfast items here include homemade pastries, pea and ricotta toast, quiche lorraine, and bread pudding french toast. The delicious coffees and teas add to the overall experience. If you visit Jackson, you must try this place at least once!

Lunch

Liberty Burger – You can’t leave Wyoming without trying a bison burger. Bison meat is a lot leaner and healthier than a regular burger. (An added bonus is bison are not kept in captivity for their meat. They are allowed to live wild lives.) Liberty burger is the spot to try it out since burgers are their primary menu option.

Coffee

Cowboy Coffee – If you enjoy an afternoon coffee like me, stop by Cowboy Coffee. The inside is cute or you can sit out on the sidewalk for some people watching! The coffee is made fresh and tastes great.

Dinner

There are lots of options for dinner, but here are three very different experiences to try.

Pinky G’s – A dive located off the side streets of Jackson. This place was featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives for good reason! They serve delicious pizzas, wings, and beer. I loved sitting here and seeing real cowboys coming in for a drink. They even had a rodeo on TV.

Lift Looking for dinner with a view? Lift is located right at the base of Snow King Ski Resort in Jackson. The food was okay, nothing special, but the view was outstanding and had a great local vibe to it. It was fun to soak up the adventure around me. I saw paragliders, runners, and bikers heading up to the top of Snow King resort with their dogs! They also have corn hole out front so you can play while waiting for your food.

The Noodle KitchenAfter all the heavy meals, my family was ready for something healthy. We really enjoyed the Noodle Kitchen which was located right across from our hotel. The broth and noodle bowls here were absolutely delicious and a welcome break from heavy, meat-based meals.

Mangy Moose – Although we didn’t eat here, we loved visiting the Mangy Moose, located at the Jackson Hole Ski Resort. This place is one of the main restaurants at the ski resort and had a funky, cozy vibe. I can imagine escaping the cold from a day on the slopes to enjoy a warm meal here and watch the skiers/snowboarders on the mountain.

What to See in Jackson

Antler Arches

The main square in Jackson is a nice centerpiece to the town.  A beautiful park marks the center where people sit to enjoy their coffee and live music. Four very distinct arches outline the entrances to the park. At first, it’s a bit alarming to see all these antlers. But we soon learned elk naturally shed their antlers each year, so these are found all over the elk refuge located just outside Jackson! They collect the antlers which are used to create these arches.

Shops

The part we enjoyed most about this town was simply getting lost in the quaint streets and popping in and out of the shops.

Jackson Hole Ski Resort/ Grand Teton Village

There is a difference between “Jackson” and “Jackson Hole”, though the two names are used interchangeably. Jackson is the name of the main town. Jackson Hole is a ski resort located about 12 miles outside Jackson. Ironically, there is a smaller ski resort located in the town of Jackson called Snow King.

Though the best time to visit Jackson Hole is the winter to partake in the snow sports, it is open and interesting year round! This ski resort is where you will find The Mangy Moose restaurant along with a tram open all year, which takes you to the top of the mountain for some spectacular views. I also heard rumors that they have a restaurant at the top that serves delicious waffles! Since the day we visited was very gloomy, we skipped the tram.

Visit Grand Teton National Park!

And of course if you are staying in Jackson, you must visit the park. You can read my post on what to see and do in this gorgeous national park.
