Looking Back: Adventures in 2017

It seems that ever since I started Wonderlost each year has brought new and even better adventures. This will be my 3rd annual recap on the blog –  I always enjoy looking back at the best moments from the year. I encourage you to look back and reflect on your own highlights from 2017 if you haven’t already. Whether it be putting a photo album together, writing out your favorite moments, or simply sitting and thinking back to the good times while enjoying a cup of coffee — it’s worth it to see how much you have done in a year. Here’s a recap of all my favorite memories from 2017.

January: Reunion in Charlotte

January kicked off with a beautiful reunion in Charlotte, North Carolina with my favorite travel mates. Though we were missing one, five of us met up at our friend Meg’s house in Charlotte and were pleasantly surprised with a beautiful snowstorm! It was a wonderful way to start the year with laughter, walks in the snow, and cozy chats. Can’t wait to see my girls in NYC this week.

March:  Miami, Japan + New Job

March began with a fun trip to Miami with Ryan to visit my cousins. We checked out Wynwood Walls, the Florida Keys, and South Beach.

After returning from Miami, I embarked on the Global Citizenship Project to Japan for 10 days. I had the chance to visit Tokyo, Kyoto, Mount Fuji, Hiroshima and so much more. We spent our days watching sumo wrestling, dressing up like geishas, and learning to be samurai. We ate amazing food, rode the bullet train, visited awe-inspiring temples, learned about peace near Mount Fuji, paid our respects in Hiroshima, and more. I will never forget that trip!

Right after returning from Japan I began my new job as the Social Media and Outreach Coordinator with ARIN. Nearly a year later I am still loving this gig and my team!

April: New Orleans + NYC

In April I traveled to New Orleans with my company for my first work trip with ARIN. I will be traveling twice a year with my team to help put on meetings for our members, so it was a great introduction for what to expect. New Orleans was an eclectic and fun city!

That same month, I met up with my London gals again for a mini reunion weekend in NYC. This time I got to meet one of our favorite Wonderlost contributors, Juliette for the first time.

May: Beach Birthday, Sara’s Graduation

In May I celebrated my birthday in a very special way. Ryan and I took my dog, Bailey, to the beach. We had a sunny, relaxing day playing with Bailey and soaking up the sun at Assateague Island. A perfect birthday!

My amazing sister, Sara, also graduated from law school in May. We had a wonderful time celebrating this momentous graduation.

June: Martha’s Vineyard, Sanibel Island + New Apartment

June was another busy month! I started the month with a fun trip to Martha’s Vineyard to celebrate darling Eva’s bachelorette weekend. It was a beautiful, relaxing weekend filled with lots of love and laughs.

Soon after returning, I flew down to visit my cousin in Sanibel Island off the coast of Florida. We rode bikes, saw dolphins, and tried paddle-boarding. A fun start to the summer.

June was also the month Ryan and I moved into our first apartment together, it’s such a cozy place to call our own!

July: Newport Wedding, San Diego

Eva’s beautiful and unforgettable wedding took place in July in Newport, Rhode Island. It was a fun time celebrating Eva and Carl with friends in a stunning location.

Soon after the wedding, Ryan and I took a quick trip to visit a few friends in beautiful San Diego, CA. We explored the city, beaches, and Coronado Island.

August: Utah/Wyoming

In August, I took a breathtaking trip with my family out to Wyoming. We visited Jackson, Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park. The nature out there was just simply stunning and I loved seeing all the wildlife. I highly recommend visiting this beautiful part of our country!

October: San Francisco

I traveled for my second work meeting with my company in October. We held our event in San Jose, however I had the chance to spend time visiting a friend in San Francisco. We took in the view from Twin Peaks, hiked Land’s End Trail, ate delicious food,  visited Sausalito and more. It was a fun getaway!

November: Getaway House + Chicago

In November, Ryan and I booked a special trip to a Getaway House about two hours from our home. We disconnected from our daily routines and spent the night in a tiny home in the woods. You can read all about our experience — I highly recommend checking this place out. I also traveled to Chicago for a work conference and had the chance to get a real taste for this wonderful city. My cousin met me there and we had a great time seeing all the sights in Chi-town.

December: Trip to Colorado + Engagement!

December capped off in a magical way. Ryan and I took a trip out to beautiful Colorado. And to my surprise, he proposed while we were out there! It will always be a special place for us now, and it was a great way to end a fantastic year.

I am so grateful for all my friends, family and the wonderful experiences from this year. I love pausing to think back on all the good times. Next year is promising more adventure with a wedding to plan, a trip with my sister to Norway and Sweden, and the opportunity to work in Australia! Looking forward to a brand new year.

I wish you all a healthy, happy and adventurous 2018. As always, thank you for reading and supporting this passion of mine. I hope you chase your dreams and create the life you want for yourself in 2018. Happy New Year!
